My Favorite Places to Find Free Fonts

Sometimes when you are searching for a fun font for a new design it's easiest to explore free options. This helps if you are just starting out or have a limited budget. Not only will you get to see what best expresses your business, but you will save some money along the way. Here are 5 places (in no particular order) I like to go to scoop great free fonts:

  1. Google Fonts

Easy to use and integrate into websites.

  2. FontSquirrel

    A hidden gem–hand-curated free fonts.

  3. MyFonts

    1. Sign up for their email list and they'll send you emails featuring discounts and free fonts.

    2. Free Fonts Only search filter (the link above connects you)

    3. Special offers page has awesome discounted fonts

  4. Typewolf

    1. Great for suggesting free fonts that are similar to their paid counterparts if you can't afford steep price tags.

    2. There's also a lot of examples of fonts in use in their Site of the Day section to get some inspiration flowing.

  5. Behance & Dribbble

    1. Sometimes designers will graciously give away a typeface or particular font or you can choose to donate money to them, which works great if you are on a budget.

Search results and browsing on these sites can give you more of a curated selection and cross-reference examples or alternatives. I tend to stay away from bootleg fonts or bloated free font sites where it can be hard to make a selection (like dafont.com). Make sure you are checking licensing on the free fonts you download to make sure they are available for commercial use.

Happy hunting!
